Honeybees, master architects and engineers, secrete their own building material. To stimulate wax glands, younger bees that have not yet become foragers gorge on honey, then lock claws and hang in living curtains. Their body temperatures rise as digestion takes place, and after several hours the wax begins to flow from pockets in their abdomens.
